Foundations of college writing

In my foundations of college writing class with Dr. sherry, I learned how to create different forms of writing and compose them into numerous styles of genres. We learned how to critically analyze forms of writing and use the principles of analyzing to create our own models. By using these principles, we created research papers, created satires, and created brochures to help us create successful models from our own thoughts. Upon learning these skills, I transformed my research paper into a power point slide and a created a satire about my research. I did this because the goal was to learn how to create different forms of writing that is appropriate for that particular audience. My research paper was about staying persistent in college and I use my findings to compose different forms of writing for college students, their parents ,and college faculty/staff. In my final project, I created a story about my personal life. I use key moment from my past, my present, and my future, and connected all of those moments back to a question that was address in class, which was want does it mean to be educated.

Goal A. Students will be able to compose for particular audiences and purposes.

This goal is stating that students will be able to transform their writings into different forms of genres for different audiences. In my foundations of writing class, we learned how to do this by first deciding which form of writing will best fit the particular audience. I choose to use examples from my own projects by composing a power point for parents and writing a cover letter for a future employer. I use my research paper about college persistence. I use the information that I got form there and created a power point that would be more impelling to parents instead of actual college students. I also use my cover letter and wrote about why I would be a good employee in a college setting. In my cover letter, I stress the importance of keeping college students in school and to prevent dropouts. I stated that I would be able to keep college students in college based on the information that I learned from my research.
